The Running in America Coalition

The Running in America Coalition (T.R.A.C. Get it?) is an idea that could spread throughout the United States, and even the world. It's basic concept is this- childhood obesity in a national epidemic. It is a consequence of sedentary lifestyles and portents many health maladies later in life. It has proven to be a recalcitrant problem and few things are being done to address the situation. The proposed solution is to use running tracks as the crucible to engage our youth in more active behaviors. Once engaged, the running track could be further utilized to develop healthier habits in eating and exercise regimens. It could also be used for locally based competitions to develop characteristic such as teamwork and leadership. The final ingredient is to involvement members of of community, specifically those who don't have children or whose children are grown, When running, walking or jogging with the children , these adults will provide the mentorship and role models that are so desperately needed by our youth today.

The purpose of this blog is to provide a forum for expounding on the idea of using running tracks to combat childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyles, identify the worst running tracks in the nation (and the best) and post the images, and create a nationwide "virtual" coalition of individuals who will to share this information with local officials to expand children access to quality running track facilities and programs.
